Raiders 8th Grade Basketball Teams Compete Against Prosper Rogers

RAIDERS 8TH GRADE BASKETBALL TEAMS COMPETE AGAINST PROSPER ROGERS

The Raiders took on some ultra-talented Prosper Rogers Monday night and while they found themselves dropping two of three we are proud of the way they battled. In the White team, the Raiders dug themselves a hole early and made a strong comeback in the 3rd and 4th quarters but ultimately fell 30-18 to a physical Rogers team. Henry Westcott played outstanding defense and team basketball as our MVP for the game. The Gold team took on a gauntlet of a challenge, facing a Rogers team who came into the game averaging 76 points per game and had a margin of victory of 45 points per game. They displayed competitive greatness sizing up against a confident, larger squad and trailed by just nine at the half. Ultimately, Rogers got hot from beyond the arc and hit six of eight threes in the 3rd quarter and pulled away. While they lost with a final score of 65-42 our squad showed a ton of heart and played first class went things were chippy. This group embodies toughness and unity and their chemistry can’t be coach. Sebastian Khalil had an outstanding game with 10 points and James Siegler followed with nine points of his own. The Red team avenged the rest of our program by bringing home a W in the final game of the night by a final score of 49-36. Walker Wegman played high energy on both ends of the floor and added 15 points to the scoring column while Eddie Lehner matched him with 15 of his own. Toughness Belt Award winners are Walker Wegman and Henry Westcott. Both players played with grit and locked in defensively in order to help their teams gain momentum in some key moments. Wegman was a major spark in the offense not just with the 15 points but dishing out assists and running the offense. Please come join us next Monday, January 29th for Teacher Appreciation Night as the Raiders will take the home floor at HPMS one last night. (Their final game of the year will be played at HPHS on Feb. 5th) These student-athletes have represented well all year and would greatly appreciate your support!
